Vaping has become a popular trend in both nicotine and cannabis in recent years, but is it better than smoking?
First let's distinguish the difference between vaping and smoking. Vaping is the act of vaporizing dry herb or oil through low temperatures. They heat up anywhere from 356' F to 392' F, a little over 50 degrees below combustion.
Now smoking is the act of heating up the product to combustion. This is where you actually burn the cannabis, causing smoke. This smoke is what contains harmful carcinogens and creates tar.
When you vape you're releasing the essential oils containing cannabinoids and terpenes. These are what give you the effects of cannabis. When you smoke you're releasing the cannabinoids and terpenes as well, however, you are ingesting smoke, unlike a vape. Vaping is better for people who have respiratory issues as it doesn't irritate as much as smoke.
Vaping can get expensive while old school smoking can be done more affordably. Vape pens can cost anywhere from $20 to over $100 for more high tech and advanced ones. Then there is the time and routine care necessary to vape properly and cleanly. Some pens require new atomizers after so much use and all of them need to be charged and cleaned regularly.
You don't need to invest much when it comes to just smoking. All you need is a cheap pipe or papers and a lighter. The only care necessary would be to clean your pipe when it gets dirty. It is a way more cost effective and simple method.
Another difficulty when vaping is getting the temperature just right. It's more than just changing the temp on your vape from red to green. You actually need to ensure you are heating the product to the proper level to release certain cannabinoids and to get the correct potency. With smoking you just put a lighter to the weed and you're good to go.
When discretion is considered, vaping is the go to. You won't have to worry about smelling skunky after your sesh since the vapor doesn't stick nor smell like burned cannabis. So many people vape nicotine now-a-days that you will probably be mistaken for just another 'nicotine vaper.'
Vaping may be the better alternative with less harm caused to your lungs, but as it is still fairly new, research is still being released. I think smoking and vaping both have their place in the stoner community, what do you think?
